Day 1 – Arrive in Arizona
Welcome to Tucson to begin your Copper Canyon adventure. Transfer from the Tucson airport to your hotel and meet your Tour Manager at 6:00 p.m. for a welcome briefing and dinner suggestions.
Day 2 - San Xavier del Bac Mission and San Carlos
Begin our journey with a visit to the beautiful San Xavier del Bac Mission. Built by the Franciscans in the late 18th century, San Xavier is the only Spanish Baroque church of its kind in the nation. Continue through the Sonora Desert, home to the massive saguaro cactus to the border town of Nogales. We visit Hermosillo, the capital of the Sonora state and visit the capital building and Main Plaza. Later, we arrive in San Carlos, located on the Sea of Cortez where dinner at a local restaurant welcomes us to Mexico. Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Day 3 – Free Day on the Sea of Cortez
Today is a free day for you to enjoy the quaint town of San Carlos. Known for its pretty marina and fabulous beaches, San Carlos is a sun worshiper's paradise. Join an optional tour to the Mabe Pearl Farm and learn how pearls are grown and harvested. We'll stop at the Saguaro and Pipe Organ Cactus Desert Forest to see these incredible plants close up. Tonight, members of the fabulous Mexican Ballet Folklorico (when available) will introduce us to the traditional regional dances of Mexico. Breakfast and dinner
Day 4 - Colonial Town of El Fuerte
We travel through some of the richest agricultural land in Mexico and arrive in the Colonial town of El Fuerte which was founded in 1563 by Spanish Conquistadors and is considered the gateway to the Copper Canyon. Tonight, enjoy a leisurely after dinner stroll through the quaint cobblestone streets of El Fuerte where you will see the charming plaza, the town's center of social life. Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Day 5 - Rail Excursion through the Copper Canyon
Board the train for a thrilling ride through the beautiful Copper Canyon. Beginning at sea level, the train climbs to 8,000 feet while passing through the 86 tunnels and crossing 38 bridges in the more than 25,000 square miles of canyon in the Sierra Madre. A stop in Temoris allows you to see the three ascending levels of the railroad. Later, we arrive in Divisadero and our hotel, which features terraces overlooking the Copper Canyon. Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Day 6 - The Beauty of Mexico's Copper Canyon
The five major canyons in the area are collectively known as the Copper Canyon and are four times the size of the Grand Canyon. See the caves occupied by the Tarahumara Indians and take in spectacular views of the canyon. Later, join an optional tour to explore more of the canyon or just relax and be amazed by the awesome beauty of Mexico's Copper Canyon. Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Day 7 – Railroading in Mexico’s Copper Canyon
We board the train again for another breathtaking journey through the Copper Canyon. Considered to be one of the top scenic rail journeys in the world, the descent into the canyon from the top of the Sierra Madre offers views of cascading waterfalls and sheer canyon walls, which give way to rolling hills and tropical farmlands. Palm, banana, papaya and mango trees dot the countryside. Traveling west allows us to take in the beautiful Copper Canyon sunsets before arriving in El Fuerte. Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Day 8 – El Fuerte and Obregon
Enjoy a walking tour this morning to visit El Fuerte's 17th-century cathedral, City Hall and local fruit and vegetable market. Visit the Mayo Indian Museum before coming to Obregon, steeped in the Yaqui Indian tribe's traditions, art and famous deer dance. Breakfast and dinner
Day 9 – Travel to Tucson
Continue through the vast Sonoran Desert with its unique variety of plants and animals. The majestic Sierra Madre Mountains come into view before we arrive in Tucson with a farewell dinner hosted by our Tour Manager. Breakfast and dinner
Day 10 – Return Home
Following breakfast, say goodbye to the southwest with a transfer to the Tucson airport for flights home. Breakfast
